Dentist Fredericksburg

Get to Know Lance Kovar, DDS

Dr. Lance Kovar opened his practice in 2004 after purchasing it from retiring dentist Dr. Paul Panacek. Raised in the tight knit community of Caldwell, TX, he was naturally drawn to Fredericksburg’s small-town charm and knew it was the perfect place to call home and raise a family. Since then, he and his wife, Dr. Heidi Kovar, have been proudly serving the Texas Hill Country with compassionate, high-quality dental care for more than 20 years. Rooted in small-town values and driven by a passion for excellence, the Kovars have created a welcoming environment where patients feel like family while receiving the very best in modern dentistry.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Kovar’s journey to dentistry began while he was studying Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M. He had originally planned to go to medical school, but after shadowing surgeons, volunteering in hospitals, and working as an EMT, he realized it wasn’t the right path for him. During a visit to his dentist to address dental issues he had neglected while in college, he realized that dentistry could be an ideal career choice. Hands-on, rewarding, and independent, it was a profession where he could help people, solve problems, and make a meaningful difference in their lives.

Today, Dr. Kovar loves helping patients achieve their oral health goals and create smiles they can feel proud of. With a personalized, gentle approach and advanced techniques, he strives to help every patient enjoy a healthy, beautiful smile that lasts a lifetime.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Kovar earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry, now Texas A&M College of Dentistry. Committed to providing exceptional care, he holds certifications in nitrous oxide and Level One sedation and has pursued advanced training at the prestigious Pankey Institute to stay current with the latest techniques and treatments. He also studied at Dr. Bill Strupp's Dental School in Florida and completed an intensive 16-week BioMet-3i implant treatment planning and restoration program.

Always committed to growth, Dr. Kovar continues to expand his expertise through advanced continuing education courses and remains an active member of professional organizations, including the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Outside the office, Dr. Kovar enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Heidi Kovar, and their four teenagers, all born and raised in Fredericksburg. Two of their children are in college—one at Texas A&M and the other at the University of Texas—so the family enjoys a little friendly rivalry at home. Their two younger children are in high school, keeping life lively with school and extracurricular activities. The Kovars have always been deeply involved in their children’s lives; one year, Dr. Kovar even coached or assisted with three different local little league teams.

An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Kovar loves hiking, bird and wildlife watching, and restoring the natural habitat on his property. He enjoys spending time outside, taking in all the beauty the Texas Hill Country has to offer, and he also loves going on solo backpacking trips in wilderness areas, embracing the challenge and quiet of nature.
